The Reality on the Ground — 2026

The Senior Care Crisis Is Here.
And It's Getting More Expensive Every Month.

If you're a Houston family trying to figure out senior living for someone you love, you're already behind. Here's what the numbers actually look like right now.

Seniors who relied on Medicaid for long-term care now facing federal cuts
CommonwealthFund

The government safety net has holes in it. Federal Medicaid cuts signed in 2025 are working through the system now. Texas is one of the most Medicaid-dependent states for long-term care. Families who assumed coverage was coming are scrambling.

Electricity and food costs aren't going down. They're eating into fixed incomes faster than any COLA can keep up — and that directly impacts what facilities charge and what families can afford.

The caregiver shortage is a declared emergency in 24 states. Waitlists are real. The communities worth getting into fill up fast. Waiting isn't a strategy.

There are 219 assisted living communities in Harris County alone. For a family doing this for the first time, that number is paralyzing. Google can give you a list. It can't tell you which director picks up the phone, which kitchen still feels like home, or which community's staff turnover will break your heart six months in.

In-person visits change everything. Research shows nearly 1 in 4 facility tours ends in a placement decision. The decision happens face-to-face — not on a website.

"Nearly 1 in 4 senior living tours results in a placement decision. The visit is the turning point — not the website, not the brochure."
What Happens at Each Event

Networking With Purpose. Over Mimosas.

Not a trade show. Not a vendor fair. A Saturday morning at one of Houston's best restaurants — where families meet the people they're considering trusting with someone they love.

🥂
Mimosas & Light Bites
Sponsored mimosas and light bites at Houston's best brunch venues. Relaxed, not clinical. You leave feeling like you accomplished something — not overwhelmed.

Real Families, Real Questions
Families register ahead of time. We already know their situation. They come warm and ready to talk — not tire-kicking. Providers get in front of families who are actively deciding.
🤝
The Conversation That Closes
You can't build trust through a website. The voice, the warmth, the photos on the laptop — the human moment that makes a family say "this is the one." That happens here.
🏡
Home Transition Support
Many families need to sell a home as part of the transition. Vanda Crossley of EXP Realty is in the room to connect families with guidance before it becomes urgent.
Energy Cost Solutions
Rising electricity costs are squeezing both families and facilities. Think Energy is on-site to show operators and families how to dramatically reduce utility costs.
📋
Pre-Matched Before You Walk In
Families fill out an intake at registration. We match them to attending providers based on care level, budget, and location. Both sides walk in warm. No wasted conversations.
